Problem

I have finally figured out my problem with rotating my character for animation. It was a frustrating problem but I muscled my way through it. Damn was it ever frustrating. Such a relief.

CHP3 Update

I have been working as much as I can on this project but time has been increasingly sparse this last week. This particular shot is really just a rough comp that has many obvious flaws that have to be corrected, but I wanted to get it up here for you guys to see. I almost have three shots completed out of 12 I think, so I have quite a bit left to do. I have ran into a few snags over the last few days with my character rig breaking on me when I rotate him to fit him in some of the shots, but I think I have that problem figured out now.

CHP 3 progress

In addition to the sequence I posted I have also completed all the 3d tracking for the 11 shots that have the character in them. There is also one shot that has to have a green screen keyed out and an environment placed in. I have a rough edit of the shots for the trailer and I will see about posting it on here for you to take a look at. Its a really rough cut, so I might edit it a little more before I share it.

I have also been working on a run cycle. This one is a bit choppy for some reason, so I have some things to fix on it.

Here is a screen cap of my character that I have been working on. I have finished with the enveloping, I might do a little more refining in some areas, and I have started his walk cycle animation. In addition to working on this character, I also have been working with the footage comps for the trailer. I have a lot of work to get done.

My character is almost rigged. I built a custom rig and now I just have to go through and paint the envelops so that it has good motion. Also, I have finished recording and I am working on comping together a rough edit of the shot sequences I have to make a 60 to 90 second trailer.

I reworked the character quite a bit after some guidance from Rob. I moved the arms back and the head up to give more of a neck. I also fixed the knees, feet, and added some more detail to the face. There is a bit more texture worked left before he is done.






I unwrapped the character but I still have to refine the texture in PS and then do the normal and spec map.

CHP 3

Over the weekend I did some filming for my project. I guess the filming went ok. I still have to thoroughly go through the footage to see how everything will work and whether or not I will have to redo anything. The hardest part of the film shoot was staying focused and keeping everyone else focused as well.

Here is an updated version of my character. I worked on the feet and the stomach. I also added teeth. The teeth and the claws still have to be worked on a little but overall this will be close to the final look. I will work on unwrapping him soon.

Movie

Just a recap of the details of my project.

I am working on a movie trailer for the CG Society contest that is going on right now on their website. The theme of the contest is "B-Movie" so I am going to do a movie trailer of a movie that resembles movies like "The Gate", "Critters", and "The Army of Darkness". This Friday night I will be filming the scenes for the trailer. That is the basics of my project. I will post some details of the story a little bit later.

The last couple of days I worked on some more concept drawings and working on a design. I also started working on the base mesh for this character as well. I hope to have the base mesh done by tomorrow and then finish up with him by this upcoming weekend. Next weekend I think will be the video shoot for the movie trailer. That is all I have for now.

I have been working on some character concepts for
the new project. I am going to start modeling the character tomorrow. I would like to get most of the cg assets done within the next couple of weeks so I will have plenty of time to work on filming, visual effects, music/fx, and the composite.

Concept thoughts

I have been racking my brain and searching for some good ideas for inspiration towards my new project. I think I have settled on a direction. One of my favorite movies as a kid was "The Gate" and I thought I would use that movie mixed with some elements of "Ghoulies", "Army of Darkness", and "Gremlins" for the style. I'm starting on drawings and storyboards today and throughout this weekend.

Project Change

At the start of the semester I was planning on doing a VFX project involving mech exo suits but this past Monday this plan has changed. CGSociety is doing a contest where I can still do VFX but will have a different theme. I am currently back into story development for this new project and should wrap this up by this weekend. The new theme involves the "B-movie" theme, so it should be interesting, especially if I was to win the competition.

DAGD 375 - Character

Yesterday the semester began and now it is time to begin the final project at Ferris. I will be doing another VFX project that will expand on what I learned last semester and then some. In addition, I signed up for FXPhd to study Nuke in depth. My plan is to become an advanced user of Nuke.
